Instrument Cluster Design
The instrument cluster is arguably the most important component in a modern car. Recent developments have seen the instrument cluster evolve from a collection of analog gauges to a fully digital cluster, or a hybrid analog/digital combination. This project will upgrade our W216 instrument cluster from a hybrid to a fully digital solution. This will bring many benefits that the hybrid OEM cluster is missing. If the integration is deemed acceptable on our ACM W216, the product will be made available for W216/W221 vehicles.
This project will run in several stages:
1 – Analyze physical considerations and decide if the project is feasible
2 – Source appropriate hardware (displays, SBCs, MCUs, etc.)
3 – Finalize hardware design
4 – 3D print all necessary components
5 – Finish/paint all 3D printed components
6 – Decode all CAN communication that happens in the OEM cluster
7 – Decode video stream from OEM GPU and translate to our new display
8 – Software design
